I'd been having trouble with my laptop shutting down spontaneously when running certain applications for a while, namely Warcraft III and Final Fantasy XI. My computer sits on a laptop cooler which is always on, and nothing else was wrong, so I had a short list of things it could be. Brent was right when he suggested that it was the fan on the graphics card, since he had the same thing happen to him. The issue only occurs when I need the extra power to do 3D rendering, so it wasn't shutting down for standard applications or Diablo 2.
It's frustrating, because I can't just crack it open and fix it. I might be able to unclog a fan if that's the only issue, but it's more likely that it's just gone out. I'll just have to deal for now, until I can get it repaired. I might just forget that and add the savings onto what I might spend on an eventual desktop.
There's a lot of stuff I want to get eventually, and a lot of it is a lot more important, so we'll see how it goes.
