I've got a job interview on Friday which is a relief. It's an hour away, pays about 15.50, and is pretty much what I was just doing except farther from where I live. There are a lot of reasons not to interview, and not to take the job, but I'm pretty sure I can nail the interview and I'm pretty sure I can get the gig. When it comes down to it, the reasons to work far outway the reasons to pass. I'm sure I would find something else if I had the time, but I don't, really.

There's an advantage that people with a lot in savings or a paid off house, or simply generous and well off friends/family have over people without quite so many resources. They can hold out for employment that moves them a step up, or is more convenient. I understand, and it doesn't really get me down. I have to work a little harder, on the whole. I know people that can get me some really terrible gigs that pay ok, like bill collecting for example. I know it can always get a little worse.

What I really appreciate out of this is the occasional glimpse that at least some of my applications get read. They're not all going into a vacuum. With so many people looking for work, it's hard to sift through all the applicants and a lot of those applications get caught in preliminary screens. When you send out a lot of requests and get no response or your agent doesn't call you for a month at a time, it's easy to get a little twitchy. Seeing a check come in the mail and realizing that it's come with a Christmas card is doing it backwards, but it becomes a reality. You shake envelopes hoping change falls out.

tl;dr : I have an interview for Friday. It's not a sure thing, but I'm a strong applicant. I don't want to drive an hour both ways but it's a small price to pay.
