Ya know, earlier on I was half-joking on having a home bar. We just happened to end up with a credible amount of decent liquors with a few staple mixers, but it's just that there are a few drinks that because of their price to quality to amount consumed ration working out end up basically being our 'rail drinks'.
I've felt that New Amsterdam tends to be oddly sweet, as well, and we usually just buy it for vodka. Gordon's or Seagram's ends up being my rail gin more often than not. Wrinkle your nose if you want (and you might with fair reason), but I've found them surprisingly tolerable.
There's better stuff to be had. I know, because I've had it, but after drinking out of plastic handles for most of my life, at least it comes in glass.
