I finished Fallout 3 yesterday, and it was a good use of my time. I finished it in time for Jolene to go back to playing the Playstation, or perhaps she was waiting, but any way you slice it, things worked out. Now, I can't really give a full verdict on the game. First of all, it's huge, and second of all, I only played it once and it is kind of different depending on the ethical stance you take. Finally, there are really a lot of ways to kill people, and I picked small arms, which is pretty much the safest choice.

If you play Fallout 3 and you arn't sure what to do, pick Small Guns as your combat skill. You only need one, and you have some great gems.
Standouts include the Combat Shotgun, the Chinese Assault Rifle, and the Sniper Rifle. These pretty much cover all your ranges. The Combat Shotgun is a 12-drum of explosive death while the Sniper Rifle becomes rediculously deadly with the right combination of Perks and from surprise. The Assault Rifle is basically just a high-damage barrage of lead. It's not that complicated.

Runners ups included the .45 scoped magnum, the 10mm automatic, and the hunting rifle for various reasons.

The ending was a bit of a drag. As others have suggested, it ends the game, so there's no post-success wandering. If you think you're near the end and want to keep playing, then either press on and revert from a save point which you've selected ahead of time because you like where you're at or otherwise stop progressing along the main story. I got the Good Ending and I just kind of did a 'eh' at the end. Actually, there was an aspect of it that really pissed me off because there are about three or four reasons right off the top of my head that imply that it could have ended completely satisfactorily, imo.

It's a bunch of fun, otoh, there are a lot of things that just make me shake my head. People will start shit with you no matter how bristling with guns you are. The karma system is simpler then it was in Fallout 2, you can't kill children, but you can sell them into slavery. You know, but whatever. It's a great game with huge replay value.
