The last few games we'd been playing had gone something akin to smoothly, but the game continues to stutter along before being completely held up on the player end. Once again, I post these updates primarily to keep tab and quantify how games go bad (or well, in other cases), and the Abyssals game has really given me a lot to consider.
One of out players is holding true to a character concept that is both violent and non-vocal, which means he acts but doesn't explain why, in character, forcing us to discuss matters almost entirely out of character. He's strong and almost impossible to hurt in a straight fight, and his character frequently lashes out against the rest of the party, forcing us to use extreme measures to put him down ranging from nearly murdering him in his sleep to using high-end social Charms to halt combat.
Given the context of the game, our PCs have done almost everything they can to endear ourselves to him and prevent long-lasting damage to the PC, who isn't limited to just attacking other PCs, but has gone so far as to assault non-aggressive high-essence Sidereals, armies, and Five Days Darkness before blaming the rest of the PCs when things go wrong. The player understands that these things are bad ideas, but he says that he's playing his character, and this is how the character views things. Even out of character, it's almost impossible to explain why this is causing a disruption with the rest of the players. He views the character actions as their own end, and any action furthers the direction of a plot. That is, he doesn't care about resolving issues in story, he's acting as true to the character he created as he views possible.
I dislike PC on PC combat, to be honest. I live with it. This game has become the rest of the party trying to deal with one super-powered, unreasonable Abyssal exalt every other session, and that's not fun.
