My time's really tight again, so this post will probably look more like a laundry list then something that's comprehensive. I guess it's stuff I mean to write about and that will probably sort itself out.

Fantasy General is the game I'm playing lately. I got it in the late 90's back when turnbased wargaming ala Panzer General was starting to be on its way out. RL wargames have never interested me but I've always been interested in the fantasy and sci-fi/space opera equivalents - I even tried (and spent a lot of hard-earned high-school cash on) Warhammer 40k, but the people at the game shop didn't want to play with a newbie with a roughly painted army. So it goes. Anyhow I never finished it, because it gets difficult fast, and there are many evenings where I spend one of my four free hours wrestling with the best way to shepard my force to victory. Continent 5 of 6, everyone, for what it's worth.I don't think there's much more to say about that actually; it's a 16 year old game that game with a Prima strategy guide that tells you how to play multiplayer by email.

That is one step away from mailing your opponent about where you've moved your rook.

On the recommendation of several of my peers, I've purchased William Gibsons Distrust That Particular Flavor because I love his essays and at this point, I might as well just go about owning everything he's ever published for the sake of completion because I'm pretty sure I'm about three books away. It is in hardcover, because I don't want to wait a year, and it cost a nearly prohibitive 25 American dollars. It has his essay about Singapore, which I love, and is the only thing I've read in it yet.

Yesterday, Brent emailed me an Exalted character sheet named 'The Majordomo', a Chosen of Journey that was supposed to be an inside joke. He came with a heroin addiction and a flying cloud, and I didn't understand it even when he said that a 'd' om Creation makes a 'th' sound. The Major Thomo. Oh, Brent. Never change. Another David Bowie character to fill our rosters. I had to admit to him that I had a statted version of the Carmine Paragon, a Sidereal Chosen of Battles who was obsessed with locations, had mastered the pinnacle Dodge Charm, and spends most of taking one endangered location and moving it to another, baffling locals and Yu Shan. Yeah, Carmen Sandiego. I'll probably restat a few of these characters to be Exalted 2.5 compliant at some point for yucks.

I'm rewatching Ghost in the Shell : Standalone Complex with Katie, who hasn't ever seen it. For me, it's been years, so its nice to see the story unwind in its complexity again. I enjoy how they pay attention to the plot and I'm not easily able to see holes in it while the little bits of information begin to fall into place. Unlike a lot of shows, it doesn't fall apart at the end but, rather, actually comes together and rewards you for paying attention earlier. We're two or three episodes off from the end at this point, so we'll probably finish it up tonight.
