A shit load of time flew by from my last post until now. I hadn't really realized how much time until today when I looked at the calendar on my LJ, and figured I probably ought to at least indicate I'm still here.

I've kind of been on something like a half-vacation. I've got no house projects, just maintenance. I don't have school yet. I'm pretty intentionally not starting anything new. The house looks better than it did several months ago, but we're still broke, so the going is pretty slow. The only improvements I can really make right now that don't involve an influx of money are yardwork based or throwing out/donating things. I'm out of stuff to throw out, so Kay's doing that and I'm still doing a lot of daily yard work. It's just that I don't have any overriding goals besides clearing shit out, bagging it up, and setting it out by the curb once a week.

Sadly, I haven't been doing as much nerd shit as usual. I play a little Civ 5, and I'm ostensibly supposed to be playing Persona: IS, but I'm not logging much time in that. I'm not really reading anything. (Which is kind of surprising in its own right.) The catch-up I'm playing with the house is, frankly, the kind of thing most people pay others a fair amount to do because it's laborious and often frustrating. Part of the driveway near our back yard, for example, looks a lot like an extension of the lawn and had been since before I moved in. (It's just creeped a few inches since then.)

When Kay and I discovered that was the case, I started attempts to cut back the encroaching grass, but it turned out to be largely crabgrass, and digging out several square yards of the shit from our gravel driveway has been literally painful. I'm digging weeds out of a back plot where an old shed had been, too. A lot of this is by hand or, when appropriate, hand tools. I finally finished uprooting a section of creeping vines. String beans have just come in, and tomatoes are still green but getting bigger. Cilantro, hot and spicy oregano, black berries, and mint have all been very successful. (We're hoping that the mint takes over most of the grass, and it doesn't have a bad start so far.) It's been a big change from sitting indoors all summer, but this year has been pretty productive.

I've also got the last three games loosely mapped out for my one on one WoD game. It was started a few years ago, and mostly stayed dormant except for the extremely occasional session, and was really only done to get Kay used to some of the basics of table top play. Amusingly for me, it lasted so long that the God-Machine Chronicle update came out before I managed to finish. Once its over, I'll be thinking about getting some of the guys over for a new game, but I honestly have no idea when that might be.
