[profile] viski and I were talking about our characters today, and I was kind of complaining (whining is more accurate, actually) that I think that my Requiem character is kind of over-the-top compared to where I wanted to take his attitude. He's supposed to be chatty, a little repetitious, and somewhat aggressive in his stances, but there were a lot more non-sequeter moments then I wanted.

Sure the dude is a little absent-minded, but he's not supposed to be an idiot savant or anything. While we were talking, she asked what he did in his spare time, which is something I always seriously consider when I write my characters up. I'm far more likely to think about what their breakfast habits are or how they deal with their co-workers then where they were five years ago. This has backfired in the past, but the upside is that it gives me something to talk about in-character.

Actually, one of the first things I do is determine what the character's favorite band or musician is. Covington's had been The Beach Boys, while Atol's is actually David Bowie. These were actually the only two characters I intended to play for a while, but I'm playing Collin in Requiem, so I spent some time considering it before I settle on the band America, though Simon & Garfunkle probably give them a run for their money.

There's something really kind of amusing and pleasing to think of this fanatical vampire listening to folk-rock on a tape cassette in his spartan apartment, or my shady would-be emo magician rocking out to Ziggy Stardust on his battered IPod on the bus to 8:00 am classes.

Edit: I'm limiting myself to one of these a night, on theme, but there was something that I'd forgotten to brung up that's really been eating at me lately.
I've got these papers on my desk, and I've got a bookmark on my laptop. Next to the laptop is a to-do list, and on the corkboard on the wall near the tele is a piece of paper with an agenda tacked on. Each of these things tells me to call the Belleville area violence prevention organization about a few issues I wanted to ask them before I send out the Cam email info.

The only problem is that I have literally been sleeping through the entire period they are open, for days on end. So I'm just going to email them tonight and set a time on Friday (so I don't miss any pre-work sleep) to make sure the call goes in. And if I don't get the info by later today, I'll just send a friggin' follow-up email.

Having something I need to do being undone eats at me until it's taken care of. I'm kind of a slacker, unless other people have asked me to do something, and the fact that I'm out of proper order is hellishly irritating for me. This would be slightly less of an issue if I had the weekdays off this week, but that's a boon I'll pass on. At least I'll get it taken care of in the next day or so, so I can move onto the next project.
