Today's so beautiful that even having to go to work didn't dampen my initial enthusiasm for it. Of course, now I'm inside behind glass, so I won't get to experience it for another 4 hours and then only for about 20 minutes - most of it from behind the wheel of a car. There's something kind of cruel about that.

I heard a news story about heroin use in the St Louis area. One of the spokespeople for the protest and awareness group made a  comment that these weren't the usual users you were used to seeing on television. That they were mostly caucasian and from the suburbs. And that statement was followed up by saying that these were real people, people you knew. Friends. Brothers. Sisters. The person next door.

That was pretty close to exactly what they said. I'm sure they didn't mean anything about it, but I felt it was pretty deeply troubling. Heroin wasn't a problem when it was poor and black people? People in the city? But know that it's hitting our precious suburbian population, it's time to feel outraged? I'll leave you to it.

A few weeks ago, Frank and I were sitting on our couches watching Star Trek : Voyager when the subject of housing came up. He's working a job that makes legit middle-class, and we live in a hole. The math's not complicated. He's not going to stick around for all that long, but he's not sure where he's going. That, combined with an already pretty unstable work situation has left my entire situation kind of up in the air.

So, you know, I'm probably moving again in the next few months. If I weren't dating someone I was quite fond of, there'd probably be a trek back up north to the ocean, mountains, and culture of the Puget Sound. As it is, I'm probably sticking around The Land of Corn. My long term future is pretty tenuous, though. I'm sure it'll be interesting.
