MISO - not just a tasty soup, but a frustratingly busy time of the year when furniture flies out of our store almost faster than we can bring it in. Manufacturing Inventory Sell-Off.

Winter is generally busy for us, but MISO officially started (at the cusp of income tax return season), so I guess you could say that all our training kind of leads up to this next five weeks in the same way that a retail worker expects Christmas to be. My hours hit or exceed 40, I'm unlikely to get two days off in a row at any point, and the work tends to be extremely physically demanding, so I generally tell people that they can ask what I'm up to on any given day or evening, but even if I am somehow free, I still might not have the time to do anything.

Add the snow to that, well, it's miserable. I really hate the snow and cold, so running errands is an incredible pain in the ass.

The gains I make when I'm over worked or feeling crummy are extremely modest. But, I do still make sure to work at least a little bit.

I'm making a big effort to keep making food personally, instead of trying to hit up fast food places or just throwing whatever is around into a bowl of ramen. I've already made a large batch of curried potatoes, I'm making ground beef stroganoff sandwiches now, and tomorrow is probably chicken stock for chicken, kale, and potato soup. I'm kind of hoping that the work I put in now will make future days ahead a lot easier since I shouldn't have to cook for several days. Other pre-prepped foods will probably be another red sauce for pasta and hard-boiled eggs.

This season is really kind of getting to me, though.

This winter has been, and is still, exceptionally brutal. I'll admit to being spoiled by my last decade in this state, such that this arctic blast, which would not be out of place in Michigan in an average year, is making me miserable.

Hang in there, man. Sounds like making food at home makes you happy, so keep at it, take joy in it.
