Magic has been my number one current hobby at the moment, taking up the bulk of my non-work time which, because of my hours, is in a little bit of a short supply. If you play this game, you get a feel for the decks you play, and my Standard deck is rubbish at the moment (not to mention not even being entirely composed). The problem is the mana curve and the fact that I spend several turns doing absolutely nothing before anything happens. By that time, it's too late.

Here's what it looks like under the cut on the chance that you follow Magic.

Spells:
4 Terminate
4 Bituminous Blast
4 Creeping Mold
4 Rain of Tears
3 Jund Charm

Creatures:
4 Birds of Paradise
4 Bloodbraid Elf
1 Broodmate Dragon
3 Troll Ascetic
2 Hypnotic Specter
1 Sprouting Thrinax
2 Hell's Thunder

Land:
3 Swamp
6 Forest
6 Mountain
3 Savage Land
3 Karplusian Forest
3 Sulpherous Springs

What's wrong? The mana base misfires, the Birds don't provide significant mana acceleration, I rarely cascade into anything I care about, and I'm often holding a Rain of Tears when I actually want to do something. Jund Charm and Sprouting Thrinax are ok when I cascade into them, but suck to cast and I can rarely do it on turn three (much less the hoped for turn 2). Maybe Rain stays, maybe it doesn't. I need a full compliment of Fulminator Mages, I'm planning on using Manamorphose tech to even out my mana and provide a free Ritual effect when I cascade into it (not to mention breaking even on card pairity by providing a draw with no penalty because manaburn goes away even if I don't use the boost) and enter either 4 Volcanic Fallout or 4 Incinerate to replace Jund Charm and some combination of Thrinax and Specter.

I love the Specter, but it's out of place in this deck even if I could make an argument for it being in-color. I'm not sold on the trolls (they still seem like threats and they're castable) but I do feel like I like Hell's Thunder. Cascading into one is terrific, because I can still even cast it again.  If Land destruction goes awry as a concept, at least I'll end up with an ok R/G/B Aggro deck.

Work was busy yesterday, to my chagrin. I didn't approve at all. Most of the helpdesk called off work for one reason or another and I ended up stuck fielding the bulk of the call ins with whoever else actually came in. I computed Atol's exp, and I'm working on hammering out conceptual stats, meaning I'm probably bringing books into work again today. I also have to pay bills, which is a drag, but I've been good and stuck to my budget despite being sorely tempted to blow it out of the water.
