I'm not a big fan of drunk dialing. That's not to say I've never drunk dialed, just that I think in principle, it's a really rude thing to do to someone. I know that in the past, I've tried to just ring people I was sure were free and available, though I've been mistaken. It's really kind of an awkward thing, but I hate to be woken up by someone who's only excuse was that they were smashed.

So, sorry about those e-mails, everyone.

Yeah, so, it looks like I drunk-e-mailed a bunch of people. This feels kind of like the equivalent of a drive-by discussion, where I roll up in my Honda and produce a pamphlet I'd like a prospective target to look through, and maybe critique my ideas regarding Hegel. I assume for some people, though, it would be irritating to get an e-mail from me only to realize that there were three pages of melancholic exposition on leaving combined with my thoughts on NChangling, with a crudely hidden link to that Rick Astley single. Anyhow, some of my e-mails were pointlessly maudlin and unneeded, though I did get one response to a text message I sent about ignoring my e-mails with a 'lol priceless'. On re-reading, the message to this particular Frank Miller fan, in the middle of my 'goodbye, let's have a party' exposition was a link to Penny Arcade's take on the comic/movie Sin City.

'whoreswhoreswhores', indeed, eh Mr. Miller?

Anyway. It probably seems anti-climactic for a lot of people, considering that whenever someone talks about a consideration like this as long as I have, it usually means that they intended all along to go through with it. But, whatever. I finally put my mental foot down and dug in, deciding that the only thing that'd stop me from taking that trip to Seattle would be unforeseen financial issues. Even then, I imagine they'd just delay me. So, I'm afraid, but I'm also really, really excited. I don't think it'll seem real until I'm actually there, thousands of miles away and absent my belongings almost in toto.

So, on a different note, I was trying to play FFXI at Frank and Brian's, which was working fine until my computer inexplicably shut itself off. I'd never had this problem before, but it wouldn't turn back on and didn't seem to be registering that it was even plugged in. I checked all my connections to make sure it hadn't run out of power, changed outlets, the works, but it seemed to have turned into a block of really pricey plastic.  Then, as inexplicably as it stopped, it allowed itself to be turned on with no seeming ill effects. I tried playing the game again, and it happened once more, after about an hour and a half of play. I think it's the program, though, because it doesn't do it otherwise, and sometimes FFXI interacts oddly with things like ZoneAlarm or other programs, but it freaked me the hell out. Has this happened to anyone else?

In addition, I've been reading Murakami's Kafka by the Shore. I find it speaking to me on the same level, but in a different way then his other work. Like Gibson and other writers, he possesses a style that's difficult to copy on more then a superficial level, creating works that are similar to each other but different then most other things I've read. I think that's why I love him so much, but I probably shouldn't continue to keep A Windup Bird Chronicle, so let me know how you wanna get some of your stuff back, Vi. As awesome as your water heater is, and as useful as I'd found it, I was thinking that you might actually want it back! XD

I might treat y'all to some quotes from the book that I particularly like. As with most works, I think context is an issue, but some of them are really interesting. I work from today until Friday morning, which is a drag, but I'll be easy to contact by e-mail at least.

Probably sometime after the 21st. I have a game to go to on the 7th of next month, and I can make the 21st, too. Then I'm thinking about organizing a get together.

For those that know me really well, it's kind of a surprise. I hate waiting, and I tend to make a decision and follow through right away. For others, I guess, it's surprising I'm going so quickly. I'm considering June 26th pretty strongly, because Tuesdays and Thursdays tend to fly cheaper.

That I'm going to late in the first summer months kind of drives me nuts go. OTOH, that's basically my projected leave date from as long as a year ago. (I expected to spend about a year at home before I left. The idea was to wait for Vi and save money, but I'm actually more strapped for cash now then I was then. That's not really anyone's fault, just not what I intended.)
